This package:

• Introduces adults to the issues of physical and emotional abuse of children in the context of domestic violence
• Examines the dynamics and tactics of domestic violence and invites adults to understand children’s feelings, beliefs and behaviours
• Presents positive parenting attitudes that enable adults to nurture and support the emotional and physical well being of children
• Assists in determining perpetrators’ attitudes and their potential “workability” for change
• Educates the general and professional community about child abuse and domestic violence issues
• Identifies a range of interpersonal and systemic intervention strategies

HOW TO USE THE PACKAGE
CHANGE COULD COME is designed to be adaptable for use by counsellors, health, welfare and educational workers in different contexts including:

• Counselling individuals, couples and families
• Assessing and working with perpetrators
• One-off presentations and special events
• Community education programs
• DV seminars and group workshops
• Educating staff who contact children and families affected by DV and child abuse
• Training team leaders and specialist workers in child protection, education, health and welfare sectors
• Developing effective DV prevention, intervention and referral strategies
  

CHANGE COULD COME CONTAINS
One DVD (40 minutes long)featuring:

• Noni Hazlehurst, as the host and presenter
• The Jannawi Kids puppets who depict a range of children’s experiences of both living with and separating from domestic violence
• A realistic portrayal of the impact of domestic violence on children’s lives and relationships, which is conveyed through the sensitive use of humour and dialogue
• A selection of short vignettes of 3-6 minutes duration, focusing on children of different ages including babies, preschoolers, infants and primary school aged children
• Stories that demonstrate cultural diversity and respect for Indigenous reconciliation

A Resource Manual including:

• A comprehensive package of background information, key concepts, participant handouts and activities
• Presenter’s notes including possible questions for each section
• Clear planning guidelines for adult and community education that mirror the structure of the video
